K-way

Le K-Way coupe-vent imperméable, fut inventé en 1965 par le fabricant de pantalons français Léon-Claude Duhamel, qui eut l'idée de faire un vêtement léger pour se protéger du mauvais temps. D'abord imaginé pour les enfants[réf. nécessaire], il se range dans une pochette banane.

L.C. Duhamel l'appelle d'abord « En-cas » (de pluie) avant qu'un publicitaire le renomme « K-way ».

En 2004, la marque K-Way est reprise par le groupe Basic Net S.p.A., societé italien ayant propre siège social à Turin et proprietaire aussi des marques Kappa (équipementier), Robe di Kappa et Superga.

Histoire

Le K-Way fut créé par Léon-Claude Duhamel en 1965[1]. À son lancement, le fabricant de pantalon du Nord nomme son coupe-vent en nylon « En-cas » (de pluie)[2]. L'année suivante[1], Jean-Claude Duhamel renomme, sous l'idée de l'agence Havas[3], son « en-K » en « K-Way », ce qui lui donne une dimension internationale[1] et en vend 250 000[4]. À partir des années 70, le K-Way s'associe avec l'équipe de France de ski alpin[5].

En 1992, Pirelli rachète la marque[1]. Vers 1995, la marque devient un nom générique[1], ainsi l'entreprise passe de 500 millions de francs de chiffre d'affaires en 1992 à 100 millions en 1996 à cause de la concurrence asiatique[1]. C'est pourquoi l'entreprise essaye de vendre des vêtements plus élaborés, mais du fait de la rude concurrence, les ventes ne bougent pas[5]. En 1996, c'est la banque italienne, la Sopaf qui prend possession de la marque K-Way[1].
