Petit-fils ou neveu[1] du roi Liutprand. Il participe au siège de Ravenne en 734 avec son grand-père qui l'associe au trône à partir de 735. Roi en janvier 744, il est déposé après un règne d'à peine sept mois en août de la même année et remplacé par Ratchis, duc de Frioul.
