Les lipoprotéines de haute densité (High Density lipoprotein, HDL) sont des lipoprotéines responsables du transport du cholestérol vers le foie où il pourra être éliminé. Cette fonction permet d'éviter l'accumulation de cholestérol dans les vaisseaux sanguins et donc d'éviter les risques d'athérosclérose. C'est pour cela que les HDL sont qualifiées de bon cholestérol par rapport aux LDL qui sont appelées mauvais cholestérol.
- Densité (par rapport à l'eau) : comprise entre 1,063 et 1,210.
- Diamètre : entre 6 et 10 nm.
- Composition : 48 % de lipides, 52 % de protéines.
Valeurs recommandées
Le dosage se fait classiquement par une prise de sang après 8 h de jeûn. Sa valeur est cependant normalisée moins de cinq heures après la prise d'un repas normal[1] [2].

Un taux élevé de HDL serait donc protecteur contre certaines maladies cardio-vasculaires (angine de poitrine, infarctus du myocarde). La démonstration de l'intérêt d'une augmentation de ces taux par des moyens médicamenteux n'est cependant pour l'instant pas établie[3].
