Hadewij d'Anvers (ou Hadewijch) était une écrivaine, poétesse et mystique du XIIIe siècle.
Biographie
La reconstruction de la biographie est particulièrement difficile pour cette béguine flamande. Certains indiquent 1220 – 1260 comme dates probables ; elle vit en tout cas au début du XIIIe siècle. Elle est probablement de haute noblesse car elle semble bien connaître le latin, ce qui n'était habituellement pas le cas chez les filles de la bourgeoisie ou de la petite noblesse. Les recherches sont rendues d'autant plus difficiles qu'Hadewijch semble cacher son écriture. Nous ne lui connaissons aucun confesseur qui l'aurait prise sous sa protection et nous aurait transmis quelques informations sur sa vie. A-t-elle peur de l'inquisition ? Elle cite un certain maître Robert qui a fait brûler une béguine.
Ses écrits ne seront rendus publics que bien après sa mort. Hadewijch écrit des visions et des lettres, probablement adressées à d'autres béguines. Il semble exister tout un réseau « d'amis de Dieu » qui échangent ainsi leurs idées. Ses poèmes sont d'une rare beauté, disant son amour de Dieu à travers des images courtoises.
