Les ferrets sont de petits objets de fer ou d’autre métal, et particulièrement les petits embouts métalliques fixés à l’extrémité d’un lacet ou d’une aiguillette. On les accrochait aux lacets des souliers en guise de décorations.
Les ferrets pouvaient se présenter sous forme de petite broche de métal, ornée de pierres précieuses comme le diamant, et rivée à l’extrémité d’un lacet ou d’un ruban.
