Démétrios II Nicator est un roi de la dynastie des Séleucides qui rétablit cette dernière sur le trône après l'usurpation d'Alexandre Ier Balas, de son fils Antiochos VI Dionysos et du général Tryphon. Démétrios II est le fils de Démétrios Ier Sôter, renversé et tué en 150 av. J.-C. par Alexandre Ier Balas. Il se réfugie en Égypte et épouse la fille de Ptolémée VI, Cléopâtre Théa, puis avec le concours militaire de son beau-père, qui est tué au combat dans l'expédition, il envahit la Syrie, tue Alexandre Ier Balas vers 145 av. J.-C. et reprend le trône de son père. Lors de cet épisode il hérite du surnom de Nicator (« le Vainqueur »). Il doit cependant lutter jusqu'en 142 av. J.-C. contre Diodote (Tryphon), le général du roi fantoche Antiochos VI.
Un fils connu de Démétrios II Nicator est Antiochos VIII.
En 141 av. J.-C. il est fait prisonnier par Mithridate le roi des Parthes ; bien traité, il épouse Rhodogune la fille de ce dernier. Furieuse sa première épouse Cléopâtre fait reconnaître roi Antiochos VII Sidêtês, frère de Démétrios II avec lequel elle se marie. En 128 av. J.-C. Démétrios revient de chez les Parthes et reprend son trône vers 127 av. J.-C.; mais il est assassiné par Alexandre II Zabinas en 125 av. J.-C..
