Chap-Book

The Chap Book est une revue américaine qui a été publiée entre 1894 et 1898. Elle était initialement prévue pour la promotion d'une petite maison d'édition mais sa conception moderne et ses écrits vivants lui ont donné une audience plus large. Elle a beaucoup contribué à l'essor de l'art nouveau aux États-Unis avec les dessins de William Bradley.

Le premier numéro contenait un auto-portrait de Beardsley.

Parmi les contributeurs, en fiction, poésie et critique, on trouve Stephen Crane, Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Thomas Hardy, Stéphane Mallarmé, Paul Verlaine, Henry James et William Butler Yeats. Max Beerbohm y a réalisé des caricatures.

Actuellement, le terme désigne des publications peu onéreuses, notamment pour la poésie, mais il peut aussi contenir des pamphlets, des tracts politiques ou religieux, des comptines, des fables populaires (folklore), des histoires pour enfant ou des almanachs. Il a généralement la forme d'un petit dépliant de carton qui tient dans la poche.
