Carl Gottfried Heinrich Hagenbeck, né le 10 juin 1844 à Hambourg où il est mort le 14 avril 1913, est un directeur de zoo et zoologiste allemand.

Marchand d'animaux, il organise à l'échelle mondiale le commerce des animaux sauvages pour l'approvisionnement des ménageries, des cirques et des jardins zoologiques.

Homme de cirque, il est propriétaire du Circus Hagenbeck, organisateur d'exhibitions zoologiques et ethnologiques, et dresseur d'animaux. Avec son frère Wilhelm (1850-1910), il est l'inventeur de la méthode de dressage en douceur en 1879 et de la grande cage centrale en 1889.

Homme de zoo, il fonde en mai 1907, le premier « zoo sans barreaux » à Stellingen, près de Hambourg, et il est le concepteur du panorama zoologique et de l'enclos de liberté (all. Freianlage).
