La ville américaine de Burlington est le siège du comté de Kit Carson, dans l’État du Colorado. Selon le recensement de 2000, sa population s’élève à 3 678 habitants. Densité : 262,9 hab/km² (681,4 hab/mi²). Superficie totale : 5,4 km² (2,1 mi²). Coordonnées géographiques : 39°18′15″N 102°16′7″O / 39.30417, -102.26861.

Histoire

Burlington a été fondée à environ 2 km à l’ouest de son emplacement actuel, en 1887, par un certain Lowell qui voulait anticiper l’arrivée du chemin de fer. Il s’est trompé d’endroit et n’avait aucun droit sur cette terre. À son arrivée, la Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad a bâti son dépôt à l’emplacement actuel de Burlington et les premiers habitants ont dû quitter Old Burlington. Les premiers trains ont circulé à partir de 1888.
