Breadalbane est un village du comté de Queens de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard, au Canada. Au recensement de 2006, on y a dénombré une population de 172[1] habitants.
Histoire
Breadalbane fut incorporé comme village en 1991. Le village fut nommé d'après Breadalbane, Écosse. La langue d'origine de Breadalbane est Anglo-Saxons et le nom du village est dérivé de deux mots Anglo-Saxon, "pain" (bread) et "fléau" (bana), mit ensemble veut dire "beaucoup de pain". Ceci fait référence à un congé écossais où les hommes du village se réunissaient dans la plus grosse maison du village et mangeaient le plus de pain que leurs estomacs pouvaient prendre. Le village était important comme un centre local à la fin du 19e siècle. Plusieurs manufactures étaient là et jusqu'à dernièrement, un barrage existait encore au milieu du village.
Breadalbane a un centre communautaire et une bibliothèque; aussi le village était la première gare à l'est de Emerald Junction du chemin de fer de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard.
Personnalités
Pour une petite communauté de moins de 200 habitants, Breadalbane est le domicile de plusieurs personnalités culturelles. Résidents, déjà résidents ou visiteurs fréquents incluent la peintre Hilda Woolnough, l'auteur Reshard Gool, le potier Malcolm Stanley, le cinéaste John Hopkins[2], le neuropsychologue Philip Corsi, la productrice gagnante des prix Gemini et Emmy Cheryl Wagner[3], le chanteur folk Allan Rankin [4] et la biologiste Irené Novaczek.[5]
