Bluefish est un éditeur de texte orienté vers le développement web, léger, rapide et libre supportant de nombreux langages au travers de sa coloration syntaxique (Ada, ASP-VBScript, ASP, C, C++, CSS, D, Diff, HTML, Java, JavaScript, JSP, NSIS, Perl, PHP, po Gettext, Python, Ruby, Bash, Smarty, SQL, VBScript, XHTML, XML, XSLT).

La version 2.0.0 apporte de nouvelles fonctionnalités : gestion des bouts de code (snippets), pliage des blocs de code, nouvelle gestion des fichiers de documentation, nouvelles fonctions de recherche et remplacement, possibilité de visualiser les espaces et la table de caractères UTF8. La syntaxe MediaWiki est à présent (assez bien) supportée.
