William Farr (né le 30 novembre 1807 à Kenley dans le Shropshire et décédé le 14 avril 1883 à Londres) était un médecin épidémiologiste et statisticien anglais.
Aîné d'un laboureur pauvre John Farr et de sa femme Catherine, William Farr put faire des études grâce à l'aide économique puis à l'héritage de John Pryce qui l'adopta plus ou moins officieusement. Il devint docteur en 1832.
Il se maria une première fois en 1833 avec une Miss Langford, mais son épouse décéda d'un tuberculose en 1837 sans que le couple n'ait eu d'enfants. Il se remaria en 1842 avec Mary Elizabeth Whittal avec qui il eut huit enfants (cinq survivants jusqu'à l'âge adulte), dont Florence Farr.
En 1837, il fut nommé au tout nouveau General Register Office chargé d'établir l'état civil britannique. Il prit la direction de la section statistiques. Il y organisa une nosologie et y développa l'épidémiologie.
