The American est un film américain d'Anton Corbijn sorti en 2010. C'est l'adaptation du roman A Very Private Gentleman de Martin Booth publié en 1990[1].

Synopsis

Jack est un tueur à gages expérimenté et sans attaches. Mais un contrat échoué lui coûte la vie de la femme qu’il aime. Il décide alors de faire une seule et unique dernière mission, qui le conduit en Italie, dans un petit village des Abruzzes. Malgré le risque et les menaces ambiantes, Jack se lie d'amitié avec le prêtre du village ainsi qu'avec une belle Italienne. Mais une menace semble se rapprocher...
