Le Ponent est une des sept régions fonctionnelles (Vegueria) de Catalogne définies en 1995 dans le Pla territorial general de Catalunya et comme vegueria avec le nom de Lleida dans le projet de loi sur l'organisation de la Catalogne Veguerial (Llei de l'Organització Veguerial de Catalunya; 2009).
Elle est constiuée de six monarques, soit 360.510 habitants en 2009.
