Ibn Maja

Muḥammad ibn Yazīd Ibn Māja (arabe : محمد بن يزيد بن ماجة), appelé plus communément Ibn Maja, était un érudit médiéval du hadith. Il rédigea le dernier des six recueils de hadith appelé Sunan ibn Majah (en)[1].

Biographie

Ibn Mājah est né en 824 (209 après l'hégire) à Qazvin, dans l'actuelle Iran.

Il quitta sa ville natale et entreprit un voyage dans le monde islamique pour parfaire ses connaissances ; il se rendit en Irak, à La Mecque, au Levant ainsi qu’en Égypte. Il étudia sous l’égide de Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah, Muḥammad ibn ˤAbdillāh ibn Numayr, Jubārah ibn al-Mughallis, Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir al-Ḥizāmī, ˤAbdullāh ibn Muˤāwiyah, Hishām ibn ˤAmmār, Muḥammad ibn Rumḥ, Dāwūd ibn Rashīd et d’autres.

Selon Al-Dhahabi (en), Ibn Mājah mourut à Qazvin aux alentours du 19 février 887, soit huit jours avant le début du mois de Ramadan.
