Hugh Alexander McDowell (né le 31 juillet 1953 à Hampstead) est un violoncelliste britannique.
En 1972, alors qu'il n'a que dix-neuf ans, il rejoint l'Electric Light Orchestra. Quelques mois plus tard, Roy Wood quitte le groupe pour fonder Wizzard, et McDowell le suit. Il est remplacé par Colin Walker, mais dès l'année suivante, celui-ci quitte ELO et McDowell reprend sa place. Il reste membre de l'Orchestra jusqu'en 1979.
