Gerard Horenbout (c. 1465 – 1541) est un miniaturiste flamand, faisant partie des derniers représentants des primitifs flamands. Il a été identifié au Maître de Jacques IV d'Écosse.

Biographie

Gerard Horenbout vit et travaille à Gand en tant qu'enlumineur et peintre. Mentionné pour la première fois en 1487, lorsqu'il entre dans la guilde de saint Luc, il eut au moins deux apprentis, en 1498 et en 1502. Il est nommé peintre de Marguerite d'Autriche, gouvernante des Pays-Bas, en 1515[1], et travaille également à la cour d'Henry VIII en Angleterre[2]. Il rencontre Albrecht Dürer en 1521 lorsque ce-dernier acheta un manuscrit exécuté par Suzanne Horenbout, fille de Gerard. Son fils, Lucas Horenbout est également un peintre renommé[3]. Avec Simon Bening, il est l'un des grands enlumineurs de l'école ganto-brugeoise[1].
