Empowered est un manga américain écrit et dessiné par Adam Warren. Décrit par l'auteur comme une "comédie sexy de super-héros", Empowered a commencé à prendre forme en 2004 suite à une commande de croquis de demoiselle en détresse, ces dessins sont alors devenus de courtes histoires contribuant au développement des personnages de la série Empowered.

De style graphique visiblement manga, Adam Warren confirme que "Empowered est un comics de super-héros à part entière, mais réalisé par un artiste clairement sous influences manga"[1].

Le comics Empowered est entièrement réalisée en noir et blanc : les planches sont crayonnées, en niveaux de gris, comme un storyboard, elles ne sont ni encrées, ni tramées (la trame est un motif en noir et blanc très fréquemment utilisé dans le dessin manga) ce qui confère au trait un caractère particulièrement dynamique.

La charmante justicière masquée Empowered n'a pas une vie facile. Ses atouts sont indéniables... mais un peu trop moulés à son goût dans son super-costume. Pire encore, les pouvoirs du costume sont très erratiques et la laissent souvent démunie - et presque nue - dans des situations fort périlleuses... Malgré tout, elle affronte bravement l'adversité de sa vie de super-héroïne au rabais, aidée par son petit ami méchant à croquer et de sa copine ninja alcoolique, sans parler des conseils super-maléfiques du seigneur-démon en captivité qui regarde la télé dans son salon...[2]
