Edmund Charles Tarbell né le 26 avril 1862 à Groton (Massasuchetts) mort le 1er aout 1938 à New Castle (New Hampshire) est un peintre impressionniste américain. Il était membre des Ten American Painters.
Carrière
Enfant il prend des cours du soir de peinture avec George Bartlett à la Massachusetts normal art school, puis de 1877 à1880 il devient apprenti à la Forbes lithographic compagny à Boston. En 1879 il entre dans la classe d'Otto Grundmann à la School of the museum of fine arts. En 1883 il entre à l'Académie Julian à Paris pour étudier avec Gustave Boulanger et Jules Lefebvre avec pour travaux pratiques la copie des tableaux de grands maîtres au Musée du Louvre. En 1884 il parcourt l'Italie, la Belgique, l'Allemagne et la Grande-Bretagne.
En 1886 il retourne à Boston et gagne sa vie comme illustrateur, professeur et portraitiste.
