L’Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Calculator (EDSAC) est un calculateur automatique à mémoire électronique à retard, le premier ordinateur électronique, mis en service en 1949 à l’Université de Cambridge, Royaume-Uni. Descendant de l’ENIAC, c’était une machine électronique universelle, programmable par instructions, employant encore la technique des tubes à vide ; il pouvait effectuer en une minute 15 000 opérations mathématiques dont 4 000 multiplications [f2s].
D’après Breton, les cinq premiers ordinateurs furent l’EDVAC, la machine IAS (en), le BINAC (en), l’EDSAC et le MARK 1. L’ENIAC fut l’un des premiers gros calculateurs électroniques, et non un ordinateur.
