La ballote (Ballota nigra) est une plante herbacée vivace de la famille des Lamiacées aux fleurs pourpres, odorante et très commune en France et en Europe. Son utilisation remonte à l'Antiquité et a suscité de nombreuses recherches et études cliniques.

Pharmacopée

La ballote possède des propriétés anxiolytiques et antidépressives mises à profit en cas de nervosité, d'anxiété, d'angoisse et de troubles nerveux notamment chez les femmes au moment de la ménopause. La ballote est aussi reconnue pour ses propriétés sédatives. On l'utilisera pour favoriser l'endormissement chez les anxieux. Dénuée de toxicité, on peut l'employer chez les enfants et comme alternative aux benzodiazépines. Antispasmodique puissant, la ballote est traditionnellement utilisée pour calmer les quintes de toux mais aussi pour lutter contre les spasmes digestifs douloureux. Pour une synergie d'action, la ballote peut être associée au magnésium.
