Youngstown est une ville située dans l'est de l'État de l'Ohio, entre Cleveland et Pittsburgh. Située dans une région riche en fer et en charbon, Youngstown est devenue un centre sidérurgique majeur à partir de la fin du XIXe siècle, et, à partir des années 1970, les difficultés de l'industrie américaine y ont été ressenties de manière particulièrement forte. La ville proprement dite comptait environ 80 000 habitants en 2000, contre 170 000 en 1930. Elle est au coeur d'une aire urbaine regroupant 500 000 personnes. Youngstown est le siège du comté de Mahoning. La ville a donné son nom à une chanson de Bruce Springsteen dans l'album "The Ghost Of Tom Joad".
