Tendril est un super-vilain créé par Marvel Comics. Il est apparu pour la première fois dans Spider-Man: the final adventure #1, en 1995.
Origine
River Verys était le fils de hippies. Sa mère se suicida quand il eut deux ans, et il fut placé dans une famille d'accueil, car son père souffrait de troubles mentaux. Dans sa jeunesse, il fut arrêté pour vol à main armée, et souffrit de nécrose fasciatis. Il fut opéré deux fois par le docteur Monica Staphos. Pour le guérir, cette dernière travailla sur le procédé SSD (Synthetic Skin Derivative) en se servant d'un isotope similaire à celui qui avait donné naissance à Spider-Man.
Quand Peter Parker ajouta un échantillon de son sang au SSD, Staphos utilisa la formule sur Verys et il se transforma en Tendril. Il s'échappa et tua le docteur.
Il captura trois personnes et les attacha sous le pont d'acier où il avait été arrêté quelques années auparavant. Spider-Man l'affronta. Plus tard, dans un autre combat, il endommagea l'équipement du laboratoire et fut détruit, pendant que Dryrot était guéri.
Pouvoirs
- Le corps de Tendril était constitué d'une substance ressemblant à de la toile d'araignée, ou du coton. Cela lui offrait une incroyable résistance aux chocs de toute sorte.
- Il pouvait modifier sa forme et faire pousser des membres supplémentaires.
- La substance pouvait être projetée à distance, tout comme la toile de Spider-Man.
- Tendril pouvait soulever une demi-douzaine de tonnes. Son endurance était plus élevée qu'un être humain.
