Le syndrome de Zollinger-Ellison est un syndrome paranéoplasique caractérisé par des ulcères digestifs graves, souvent multiples, résistant aux traitements usuels, avec hypersécrétion et hyperacidité importante de la muqueuse gastrique.
Ces ulcères sont secondaires, provoqués par des tumeurs endocrines de cellules du pancréas produisant en abondance de la gastrine, encore appelées gastrinome, qui stimule la sécrétion gastrique acide maximale. Le diagnostic repose sur l'étude de la sécrétion gastrique acide et de la gastrinémie basale et après injection de sécrétine (augmentation paradoxale de la sécrétion acide et de la gastrinémie), et la mise en évidence du processus tumoral. Son traitement est symptomatique (inhibiteur des pompes a protons) et si possible antitumoral (exerèse chirurgicale).
Ce syndrome fut décrit par Robert Milton Zollinger et Edwin Homer Ellison en 1955[1].
