Le Syndrome de Poland est une maladie rare acquise de naissance, mais de cause inconnue. Son caractère génétique n'a pas encore été vraiment établi. Il touche une naissance sur trente mille, soit environ vingt naissances par an en France.
Il se caractérise en premier lieu par une aplasie unilatérale du grand pectoral, droit ou gauche. Il s'accompagne souvent d'autres anomalies : syndactylie ou oligodactylie, anomalie du radius, cubitus ou humérus, asymétrie des membres supérieurs, anomalie du diaphragme, dextrocardie cardiaque, anomalie du foie, du côlon, des reins, problèmes respiratoires fréquents et scolioses fréquentes.
Il est existe en France, une association loi de 1901, reconnue d'utilité publique « Association Syndrome de Poland » [1], membre de la Fédération des maladies orphelines
