Synchronicity est le 5e et dernier album du groupe britannique The Police sorti le 1er juin 1983. Cet album sera leur plus populaire mais aussi leur dernier, Sting se lançant dans une carrière solo avec l'album The Dream of the Blue Turtles. Le groupe se sépare après la fin du Sychronicity Tour. L'album contient la très célèbre chanson "Every Breath You Take".

Histoire

Son titre se réfère à l'essai d'Arthur Koestler The Roots of Coincidence (1972 Les Racines du hasard en français) lequel fait mention du concept jungien de synchronicité.

L'album marque une importante diminution des influences reggae qui étaient une partie importante des 4 premiers albums du groupe, remplacées par une forte production des textures et une libre utilisation de synthétiseurs qui parfois dirige des chansons entières ("Synchronicity", "Wrapped Around Your Finger"). Le matériel de Sting domine sur l'album, avec les deux courtes chansons de Andy Summers ("Mother") et de Stewart Copeland ("Miss Gradenko"). Lors de l'enregistrement, la relation des membres étaient si tendue, qu'ils ont enregistré chacun leur partie dans des pièces séparées, ne communiquant que par un lien vidéo.
