Tremblement d'étoile

Un tremblement d'étoile, starquake en anglais, est un phénomène astrophysique rare qui se produit lorsque la croûte d'un magnétar (une étoile à neutrons possédant un fort champ magnétique) subit un ajustement soudain, analogue à un tremblement de terre. Les magnétars possédent en effet un champ magnétique pouvant dépasser 1011 teslas. Ce champ exerce une telle pression sur le réseau cristallin de la croûte que celle-ci céderait par endroit[1]. Ce phénomène serait à l'origine de certaines bouffées de rayon gamma que les astrophysiciens détectent parfois dans les sursauteurs gamma mous[2].
