Scientific Data System (SDS) est le nom d'une ancienne compagnie informatique américaine. Elle a été fondée en 1961 par un ancien de Packard Bell, et a fourni des machines à la NASA dans les années 1960. Sa profitabilité la fit racheter par Xerox en 1969[1]; Xerox se préparait à la chute de ses brevets dans le domaine public et cherchait à diversifier ses activités. SDS devint alors XDS (« Xerox Data Systems »), mais perdit également sa compétitivité.

Les ordinateurs SDS

  • L'ordinateur Sigma 7 a été commercialisé en France par la CII sous le nom CII 10070. CII améliora son système d'exploitation pour en faire Siris 7, dont XDS acheta des droits de commercialisation aux États-Unis.
  • Le Sigma 2, machine 16 bits, au départ commercialisé par CAE, le sera par la CII sous le nom de CII 10020.
