Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami

Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami (5 janvier 1927-2001), connu sous le surnom de Gurudeva par ses disciples, était un chef spirituel hindou et écrivain shivaïte. Né à Oakland en Californie, il a créé un monastère hindou à Kauai en Hawaii et fondé le magazine Hinduism Today (littéralement L’Hindouisme Aujourd’hui). Subramuniyaswami était l’auteur de bon nombre de livres sur l’hindouisme et la métaphysique. [1]

Il était l’un des hindous traditionnels et gourous shivaïtes les plus connus et appréciés durant les deux dernières décennies du XXe siècle, tout en étant le fondateur et chef spirituel de la première église hindoue du monde (Saiva Siddhanta Church).

Livres

Subramuniyaswami a écrit plusieurs livres sur l’hindouisme, le shivaïsme, le yoga et la méditation. Ses travaux sont tenus en haute estime par un grand nombre de chefs spirituels hindous d’aujourd’hui[2]. Le plus gros de son travail, le Master Course [3] est un ouvrage complet sur tous les aspects de l’hindouisme shivaïte, qui comprend aussi bien l’approche métaphysique. Formant une trilogie de plus de 3000 pages (Merging with Siva, Dancing with Siva, Living with Siva), ces ouvrages sont écrits de façon simple en anglais, très similaire à la tradition d’expression orale hindoue d’antan.
