Cymbale ride
La ride est une des cymbales courantes. Son diamètre varie de 18 à 24 pouces. Elle est jouée de différentes manières selon le son recherché : l'usage le plus courant est de frapper avec l'olive de la baguette sur le dessus de la cymbale. On peut aussi la jouer avec la tranche de la baguette sur la cloche (le son est plus rond, avec plus de grave, mais plus pauvre en harmonique aigüe). On peut également utiliser des balais, des mailloches ou des fagots.
Dans certaines musiques, notamment en jazz, les batteurs ajoutent une chaînette, allant de la cloche vers la tranche. On peut également ajouter des rivets sur la périphérie de la cymbale. Le son produit est alors plus long, car les vibrations de la cymbale agitent la chaînette ou les rivets.
