Alpha Ophiuchi (α Oph, traditionnellement Ras Alhague) est l'étoile la plus brillante de la constellation d'Ophiuchus. En astronomie chinoise, elle porte le nom de Hou, représentant un astrologue assistant un empereur, Dizuo (α Herculis / Ras Algethi).
Caractéristiques
Alpha Ophiuchi est une étoile binaire[2]. La primaire est une étoile géante blanche d'un type spectral A5III, distante d'environ 46 années-lumière de la Terre[1]. Elle ne présente pas de signe de variabilité et sa magnitude apparente est de +2,08, ce qui lui donne une magnitude absolue de +1,30 ± 0,03.
Nom traditionnel
Alpha Ophiuchi est également connue sous le nom traditionnel de Ras Alhague ou Rasalhague (de l'arabe رأس الحية, raʾs al-ḥayyah, signifiant « la tête du charmeur de serpent »).
