Rainbow (RAINBOW 二舎六房の七人, Reinbō - Ni-sha roku bō no nana-nin?) est un manga seinen japonais de George Abe et Masasumi Kakizaki dont le thème principal est l’univers carcéral. Rainbow est sorti au Japon aux éditions Shogakukan et en France aux éditions Kabuto. La série est maintenant rééditée en France aux éditions Kaze Manga. Au printemps 2010, le studio Mad House adapte le manga en anime qui est diffusé sur le site de streaming de Kazé en version originale sous-titrée français[1].

Histoire

Rainbow nous narre l’histoire de sept adolescents, Sakuragi, Mario, Heitai, Kaybetsu, Suppon, Jô, Baremoto aussi différents que les sept couleurs de l’arc-en-ciel qui tentent de survivre dans l’univers impitoyable d’une prison, des années 50 où ils vont devoir cohabiter dans la même cellule. Ishihara, un gardien vicieux ne manquera pas de les harceler sans relâche dans le but de les pousser au suicide. Mais ils devront aussi faire face à d'autres détenus de la prison aux intentions malveillantes.

Commentaire

Le manga contient beaucoup de violence physique et morale perpétrée à l'encontre des personnages principaux. Cependant, l'idée de fraternité y est grandement mise en relief, comme quoi même dans le pire des contextes une forte amitié peut naître et se renforcer malgré des épreuves très difficiles.

Le scénariste a voulu restituer dans ce manga une ambiance réaliste témoignant du Japon chaotique d'après-guerre[2].
