Massacre du Temple d'Or
Le massacre du Temple d'Or — également connu sous le nom d'opération Blue Star (5 juin 1984) — fut une opération militaire commandée par le gouvernement indien sur le Temple d'Or d'Amritsar au Penjab, le temple principal du sikhisme.
Le temple était occupé par un groupe d'indépendantistes sikhs commandés par Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Le Premier ministre Indira Gandhi ordonna qu'il soit évacué après l'échec des négociations. Les occupants refusèrent de se retirer dans le calme et une fusillade s'ensuivit, qui ne fit officiellement que 84 tués et 248 blessés coté soldats et 493 tués (dont 100 femmes et 75 enfants) et 86 blessés parmi les pèlerins, les militants nationalistes ne représentant qu'une poignée d'hommes. D'autres sources, tel le Times font pour leur part mentions de presque 780 corps calcinés. Les historiens indépendants comptabilisent les dommages à environ 700 personnes coté soldats et 5000 coté Sikhs.
La violation de leur lieu saint fut considérée comme une insulte majeure par certains Sikhs et entraîna l'assassinat d'Indira Gandhi par ses gardes du corps sikhs.
