Strychnos nux-vomica
Le vomiquier (Strychnos nux-vomica) est un arbre sempervirent originaire de l'Asie du sud-est, un membre de la famille des Loganiacées. Strychnos nux-vomica pousse dans des habitats ouverts, et atteint d'habitude une taille d'environ 25 mètres.
C'est une source principale de la strychnine, un alcaloïde extrêmement toxique, obtenu à partir des semences à l'intérieur des fruits de l'arbre, appelé noix vomique, qui sont ronds, et de couleur vert à orange. Cependant, l'écorce de l'arbre contient elle aussi des composés toxiques, parmi lesquels la brucine.
