Neil Hannon est un auteur, compositeur et interprète né le 7 novembre 1970 à Derry, Irlande du Nord. Multi-instrumentiste surnommé Le Créateur, il est le fondateur et membre principal du groupe de pop rock The Divine Comedy. Parmi ses influences, il cite entre autres Burt Bacharach, Jacques Brel ou David Bowie. Son complice Joby Talbot intervient pour finaliser certains arrangements sur nombre des albums qu'il a composés. En retour, il prête sa voix à la bande originale du film H2G2 : le Guide du voyageur galactique (2005) réalisée par son compatriote irlandais.

Francophile, (Il a chanté avec Valerie Lemercier, Yann Tiersen, Charlotte Gainsbourg et Vincent Delerm) sans pour autant parler français, Neil Hannon vit à Dublin en Irlande avec son épouse irlandaise et leur enfant, après avoir vécu à Londres ; mais il se considère avant tout comme un Européen[1].

Il a gagné en 2007 le Musical Choice Prize pour son album Victory for the comic muse (2006).

Originellement annoncé par Neil Hannon pour la fin de l'année 2009, le dernier album en date de The Divine Comedy intitulé Bang Goes The Knighthood sort en mai 2010.

Collaborations

Parallèlement à son groupe The Divine Comedy, Neil Hannon collabore avec de nombreux artistes.

Il chante sur certaines des pistes (Somewhere Between Waking and Sleeping) de l'album Pocket Symphony de Air, ainsi que sur Les Jours Tristes de l'album L'Absente de Yann Tiersen. Il participe de même avec Jarvis Cocker à la composition de The Songs That We Sing et Beauty Mark (avec Air), toutes deux tirées de l'album 5:55 de Charlotte Gainsbourg.

Très proche de certains groupes irlandais et dublinois, il a contribué à de nombreux titres de Duke Special et de Pugwash. C'est d'ailleurs avec le chanteur de Pugwash, Thomas Walsh, qu'il forme le duo The Duckworth Lewis Method auteur en 2009 d'un album-concept du même nom sur le cricket, salué par la critique.

En 2005, il a également interprété "Love don't roam" sur la bande originale de Doctor Who.
