Nathan Banks est un entomologiste et un arachnologiste américain, né le 13 avril 1868 à Roslyn (New York) et mort le 24 janvier 1953 (à 84 ans) à Holliston (Massachusetts).

Il travaille sur les neuroptères, les mégaloptères, les hyménoptères et les acariens. Il commence ses recherches sur ces derniers en 1880 au département de l'Agriculture des États-Unis (USDA). En 1915, il fait paraître le premier manuel en anglais sur les acariens : A Treatise on the Acarina, Or Mites (Smithsonian Institution, Procceddings of the United States Natural Museum, 1905, 114 pages).

Banks quitte l’USDA en 1916 pour le Museum of Comparative Zoology de l’université Harvard où il commence à travailler sur les hyménoptères et les neuroptères. Il est l’auteur de plus de 440 publications scientifiques entre 1890 et 1951.

Il se marie avec Mary A. Lu Gar, union d'où naîtront huit enfants.
