Michael Sembello est un guitariste et auteur-compositeur-interprète américain, né le 17 avril 1954 à Philadelphie, Pennsylvanie.

Il est essentiellement connu du grand public en Europe pour avoir écrit et interprété, en 1983, un des titres phares de la bande originale du film Flashdance. Ce titre, Maniac, connaîtra un succès mondial, dans le sillage du film.

Il a collaboré avec de nombreux artistes de renommée internationale, dont Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, les Jackson Five, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Arthur Garfunkel, Nick Kamen.

Il a également écrit de nombreuses bandes originales de films, dont Rocky IV et Independence Day.

Il enregistra aussi la chanson "Gremlins... Mega-Madness" en 1984 pour la scène du bar, dans le premier film des Gremlins.
