Pour l'album de Marian McPartland, voir Lullaby of Birdland (1952).Lullaby of Birdland est une chanson composée en 1952 par George Shearing. Les paroles sont créditées B. Y. Forster, pseudonyme de George David Weiss. Le titre est dédié à "Bird" (Charlie Parker) et au Birdland, club de jazz de New York nommé en son honneur.
Interprètes
Le morceau a été enregistré par de nombreux chanteurs/chanteuses et instrumentistes dont Ella Fitzgerald, la chanteuse italienne Mina, le chanteur finnois Olavi Virta (en) et Sarah Vaughan. Bill Haley et ses Comets ont enregistré une version twist de Lullaby of Birdland Twist en 1962.
Blossom Dearie et ses chanteuses chantaient une version à succès en France, en français en 1954.
En 2010, Benjamin Siksou et China Moses enregistrent une nouvelle version, accompagnés par André Manoukian.
Divers
Dans le court-métrage Les Tueurs de 1956 d'Andreï Tarkovski, celui-ci, qui y joue, siffle Lullaby of Birdland.
En 2003, Amy Winehouse rend hommage à Sarah Vaughan en reprenant partiellement l'air de "Lullaby of Birdland" dans sa chanson "October song" (album "Frank"). Le titre est un clin d'oeil à l'album "September song" de Sarah Vaughan où cette dernière reprend le standard.
