L' American Psychoanalytic Association regroupe quarante sociétés de psychanalyse et compte plus de trois mille membres.
Histoire
Ernest Jones fonde l' APsaA en 1911. Elle est actuellement le membre le plus important de l'IPA.
Association régionale
Les sociétés membres de l' APsaA sont indirectement affiliées à l'International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA), dont l'APsaA est la seule société suivant ce fonctionnement.
L'APsaA compte cinq groupes d'études, vingt neuf instituts - siégeant dans les plus grandes villes américaines - ; ainsi que quatre sociétés, qui elles ne sont pas directement rattachées à l'APsaA mais à l'IPA selon le modèle standard : l'Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research, le Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies, The New York Freudian Society, ainsi que le Psychoanalytic Center of California.
