Alètheia

Alètheia (grec ancien : ἀλήθεια) : 1 - « vérité » (au sens de dévoilement), issu de lèthè « oubli » et a- (négation) ; 2 - « réalité »[1]

Pour les grecs anciens, vérité et réalité sont désignées par le même mot; ainsi l'aléthèia, au sens étymologique le plus pur, peut se définir comme la "vérité-réalité".

Plus récemment, le mot a été utilisé par différents courants, religieux d'abord (Christianisme) puis philosophiques (Heidegger), pour désigner des concepts qui s'éloignèrent du sens premier et purement étymologique. On peut donc parler de polysémie puisque, dans une utilisation contemporaine, le sens changera selon le contexte, qu'il soit religieux, philosophique ou même littéraire.

Heidegger

Dans les années 1930, le philosophe Martin Heidegger reprend ce terme[réf. souhaitée], pour définir la tentative de compréhension de la vérité. Il réalise une analyse étymologique du terme puis définit ainsi une signification de a-letheia en tant que « dévoilement ».

Ainsi pour Heidegger, l'alètheia est distincte du concept commun de vérité ; vérité considérée comme un état descriptif objectif.
