John Goowin Lyman, né à Biddeford (Maine, États-Unis) le 29 septembre 1886, décédé à Kingsley (Barbade) le 26 septembre 1967, était un artiste-peintre paysagiste.
Biographie
Faisant face à un rejet de la part des critiques de l'époque, il quitta Montréal et se rendit à Paris où Matisse exerça une grande influence sur sa peinture. Revenu au Canada en 1931, il peignit des paysages simplifiés. Son admiration pour les tonalités douces de James Wilson Morrice l'a également guidé.
Dans le but de sensibiliser le public montréalais à l'art moderne, il fonde avec Paul-Émile Borduas la Société d'art contemporain.
