Vincent Spaulding de son vrai nom John Clay est un personnage de l'univers de Sherlock Holmes créé par Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Ce qui suit dévoile des moments clés de l’intrigue.

John Clay s'est fait embaucher comme commis dans un petit bureau de prêts sur gages à Coburg-Square près de la City afin de pouvoir accéder par un souterrain à une réserve d'or située non loin de là et ainsi de la cambrioler.

Holmes découvre la supercherie et Clay est arrêté et conduit en prison.

Description

Vincent Spaulding est décrit par Jabez Wilson comme étant petit, fort, très vif dans ses mouvements, et n’a pas de barbe quoiqu’il ait tout près de trente ans. Il a sur le front une cicatrice provenant d’une brûlure faite avec un acide et a les oreilles percées.[1]

Il prétend avoir du sang royal dans les veines.
