In the Air Tonight est une chanson écrite, composée et interprétée par Phil Collins pour l'album Face Value en 1981.
Historique
Certains ont pensé que les paroles sont inspirés d'un événement tragique qui a touché le chanteur. Mais Phil Collins a confié sur BBC, qu'il a écrit la chanson suite à son divorce. Avec ce titre, le leader de Genesis depuis 1976 invente un nouveau son en incorporant à de la batterie traditionnelle de la batterie pré enregistrée (Drum Machine).
Elle a été remixée en 1989 sous le nom de In the Air Tonight ('88 Remix). Sur scène, l'air de guitare a été joué de façon rallongée. Certains rappeurs comme Tupac pour le titre Starin' Through My Rearview et DMX avec In the Air ont utilisé un sample de In the Air Tonight.
