Imana est le dieu unique ancestral des Rwandais et des Burundais. Sa grande similitude avec le Dieu judéo-chrétien (Etre Suprême, créateur de l'univers, unique, éternel, omniprésent, transcendant, invisible) a favorisé le maintien de ce nom chez les convertis au christianisme, malgré les tentatives contraires des premiers missionnaires. Une différence énorme cependant entre Imana et le Dieu judéo-chrétien est qu'il se désintéresse de sa création. Il n'intervient pas dans la vie des hommes. On ne lui voue donc aucun culte, ni sacrifice ou autre.
