L'if du Canada (Taxus canadensis) est un arbuste à croissance relativement lente, à port bas et étalé des forêts du nord-est de l'Amérique du Nord. Contrairement à la plupart des autres résineux indigènes, il n'est pas exploité pour son bois ou la pâte. C'est pourquoi, même s'il est une importante source alimentaire pour le cerf de Virginie et d'autres animaux sauvages, sa biologie et son écologie générale n'ont pas été étudiées en profondeur, du moins jusqu'à une date assez récente.
L’if du Canada soulève de plus en plus d’intérêt au Canada puisqu’il possède une teneur élevée en composés de la famille des taxanes, ingrédients actifs pour le traitement de certains cancers.
