Iconodulie
L'iconodulie ou iconodoulie, du grec εικών / eikôn image et δουλεία / douleia service, est un courant de pensée qui est en faveur des images religieuses ou icônes et de leur vénération, en opposition au courant iconoclaste.
Le terme est actuellement utilisé en relation à la controverse iconoclaste byzantine. Les iconodoules les plus renommés sont Théodore Studite et Jean Damascène. La controverse est initiée par l'empereur byzantin Léon III en 726, quand il ordonne la destruction des icônes dans tout son empire. Jean Damascène réussit à argumenter en faveur de l'iconodoulie en avançant le fait que l'interdiction des icônes équivaut à nier l'Incarnation, la présence de Dieu dans le monde terrestre. Les iconodoules arriveront à mettre fin à la prohibition des images religieuses en 843.
