IW Engine

L'IW Engine est un moteur de jeu développé par Infinity Ward pour son jeu Call of Duty 2. Le moteur semble être à la base un id Tech 3 (également utilisé pour Call of Duty) extrêmement modifié[1] (d'autant plus que les boîtiers des jeux Call of Duty spécifient l'utilisation d'une technologie d'id Software[2]). Il n'avait pas de nom spécifique et officiel comme d'autres moteurs tels que l'Unreal Engine ou le CryENGINE, mais lorsqu'IGN a questionné un développeur à l'E3 2009, celui-ci a répondu que Modern Warfare 2 (le dernier épisode de la série en développement) fonctionnerait sur l'IW 4.0 engine, la génération suivante du moteur de Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare[3]. Il n'est pour l'instant partagé qu'entre studios de développement sous l'éditeur Activision, notamment Treyarch pour ses deux jeux: Call of Duty: World at War et Quantum of Solace, l'adaptation du film de la série James Bond.
