Glen Washington

Glen Washington (né en 1957 à Clarendon) est un chanteur et percussionniste de reggae jamaïquain.

Biographie

Passionné par la musique il fait ses débuts, au début des années 1970 au sein du groupe Names and Faces, puis de 35 Incorporated. C’est dans ce dernier groupe qu’il joue aux côtés du futur leader de Culture Joseph Hill. Il apprend également à cette époque, l’art des percussions. Il devient donc chanteur percussionniste.

Il essaie d’enregistrer à droite à gauche et c’est finalement chez Joe Gibbs qu’il produit son single « Rockers nu Crackers » en 1978. Il ne rencontre pas le succès et n’arrive pas alors à percer dans le milieu du reggae. Il se spécialise alors dans les percussions qu’il joue dans différents groupes comme Culture, The Titans ou The Avengers. Il joue également pour Stevie Wonder et d’autres artistes reggae comme Leroy Sibbles (ex-Heptones), Sister Carol, Gregory Isaacs ou The Meditations.

Ce n’est que bien plus tard qu’il va reprendre ses activités de chanteur. Il obtient son véritable premier gros succès en 1998, vingt ans après son premier single, avec le titre « Kindness for weakness ». Clement Dodd, du légendaire Studio 1 lui propose une collaboration en 1997 dont sortiront les albums Brother to Brother, Next to you, Can’t you see (en 1999), Think about it chez Penthouse la même année, Free Up the Vibes chez VP en 2001 et Your love en 2002 toujours chez VP.
