Alan Odle est un illustrateur anglais méconnu (1888 - 1948).
Précurseur du surréalisme, il invente une imagerie subversive et grotesque dans un style graphique d'une grande modernité. On lui doit les illustrations d'une édition anglaise de Candide de Voltaire (ISBN : 159308028X), de 1601 de Mark Twain, ou encore de The Fall of the House of Usher d'Edgar Allan Poe.
Marié en 1917 à l'écrivain Dorothy Richardson, il n'arrivera jamais à faire une véritable carrière à la mesure de son travail et reste aujourd'hui largement invisible. Malgré tout, il est connu et reconnu par quelques collectionneurs d'imagerie atypique, comme le réalisateur Terry Gilliam.
