Clarksdale

Clarksdale, ville principale du comté de Coahoma (Mississippi), fut fondée par John Clark en 1848. C'est une ville d'environ 20 000 habitants, traversée par la rivière Sunflower, et coupée en deux par une voie de chemin de fer. D'un côté, on trouve un quartier essentiellement à population blanche, et de l'autre, un quartier noir (où se trouvent les principaux juke-joints de la ville).
Elle se trouve également à la croisée des routes 49 et 61, d'où la chanson Crossroads.

Clarksdale a été une véritable pépinière de musiciens ; c'est en effet la ville natale de Junior Parker, Bukka White, Son House, John Lee Hooker, Earl Hooker, Jackie Brenston, Ike Turner, Eddie Boyd, Sam Cooke, Willie Brown et Johnny B. Moore.

La ville est considérée comme une des villes clé du Delta Blues. On y trouve le Delta Blues Museum.

Clarksdale posséde un aéroport (Fletcher Field, code AITA : CKM).
